ADVANCED Hatha Yoga Class – Energetic Wake Up Session

Join us at the Rosewell Centre for Advanced Hatha Yoga classes, every Friday between 7.30am and 8.30am.

This is an energetic morning session aimed to wake you up and feel energised for the day ahead.

The Rosewell Centre encourages a holistic approach to yoga that increases awareness and sensitivity to the frequencies of energy, as well as improves flexibility of the spine through asanas (yoga postures).

The Rosewell Centre has a warm and comfortable yoga studio, what we like to call our yoga dojo, and take advantage of fine weather to practise outside when possible.

A typical yoga class will begin with warm ups, then moves on to asanas (yoga postures) with pranayama (breathing practices), followed by relaxation and mediation.

What is Hatha Yoga?

Hatha yoga is typically practised more slowly and steadily with more static posture holds than a Vinyasa flow or Ashtanga class. Literally Hatha means ‘power’ and is more traditionally described as ‘the means of attaining a state of yoga through power of the infinite creator’ or ‘the union with the divine’, however, Hatha yoga may be considered as anything you might do with the body, including:

  • asana – yoga postures (practised in any style of ‘yoga’)
  • pranayama – breathing techniques
  • mudra – hand gestures
  • mantra – chanting or reciting
  • types of visualisation.

What will I be doing in an Advanced Hatha Yoga class?

In this advanced Hatha yoga class we aim to prepare you for the Crow posture, bekasana and the Headstand, sirsasana.  All the preparation techniques are established first – gradually conditioning the joints and the balance.

This class is vigorous to fully warm up the body and the mind.  Typically we practise sun salutation and warrior poses with an extended routine of balances and some work with the lower back and pelvis before attempting our inversions. You will be given help with inversions especially if it is your first time.

Then there are breathing practises known as pranayama included in your session as these are critical to your sense of well being.  The conclusion of the session is a short meditation and daily reflection.

What are the benefits of Yoga?

Plenty of research has been undertaken that shows yoga to be an effective and safe way to increase physical activity levels, particularly increasing flexibility, strength and balance.

Some evidence has shown that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with heart disease, high blood pressure and aches and pains (including in the lower back), stress and depression.
