Aerial yoga classes in South Lincolnshire

Aerial Yoga Classes

Fridays (booking required) between 6.30pm and 7.30pm. Join us at The Rosewell Centre for fun, weightless yoga! Other days and times also available, contact us to arrange.

The Rosewell Centre encourages a holistic approach to yoga that increases awareness and sensitivity to energy, as well as improves flexibility of the spine through asanas, or yoga postures.

The Rosewell Centre has a warm and comfortable yoga studio, what we like to call our yoga dojo, and we like to take advantage of fine weather to practise yoga outside when possible.

A typical yoga class will begin with warm ups, then moves on to asanas (yoga postures) with pranayama (breathing practices), followed by relaxation and mediation.

What is Aerial Yoga?

Rather than performing yoga poses on a yoga mat, aerial yoga uses a silk sling or hammock that is suspended from a frame or ceiling to perform those same movements so you have the feeling of being weightless. The hammock provides support through your yoga movements, while also improving flexibility and range of motion. The hammock also takes pressure off areas of the body such as the head and shoulders, letting you reach more challenging poses with greater ease. Some yoga poses may be fully suspended in the air, however, many aerial yoga poses simply require you to take one body part such as your foot or leg off the ground.

In this class you experience yoga in a weightless way. The sling will help you to achieve some postures you would find difficult on the floor. Other postures may be more challenging in this weightless environment. Everyone always has fun in these sessions, stretching limits of flexibility and strength.

Is Aerial Yoga Suitable for Beginners?

Aerial yoga is an enjoyable and transformative experience, however, the practice can be challenging and your body may need some time to calibrate. It is not necessary to have prior yoga experience to take an aerial yoga class, but being familiar in floor yoga beforehand is advantageous.

Tips for your First Aerial Yoga Class

Trust the hammock. The hammock can hold up to 140 stone so no matter your shape, size or ability, you can enjoy the experience of weightless yoga.

Wear the right clothes. Wear tight yoga leggings and a top that that ideally covers the underarms rather, than loose trousers and a shirt. A sports bra is recommended.

Don’t wear jewellery. Jewellery can become snagged in the hammock so leave your jewellery at home.

Eat lightly beforehand. Avoid eating a large meal for at least an hour before class, a small snack like a banana beforehand should be fine and will keep your blood sugar up.

Speak up. If you are uncomfortable in a pose, or need help handling the hammock, don’t be afraid to speak up and ask your aerial yoga instructor for help. We want you to enjoy your aerial yoga class and teach in the best way possible.

Modify when necessary. Even though a movement may look difficult, there are lots of modifications that can be used to make aerial yoga classes accessible to all. Come to your class with an open mind and always speak with your instructor if you need assistance.

Relax. The more difficult moves can be daunting, so just breathe through the poses and go at your own pace.
