Beginners’ Yoga Classes
April 7 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 7:00 pm on Thursday, repeating until April 30, 2022
Discover and Enjoy Beginners’ Yoga
Join us at The Rosewell Centre for Beginners’ Yoga classes, every Thursday between 7pm and 8pm.
The Rosewell Centre encourages a holistic approach to yoga that increases awareness and sensitivity to energy, as well as improves flexibility of the spine through asanas, or yoga postures.
The Rosewell Centre has a warm and comfortable yoga studio, what we like to call our yoga dogo, and this beginners’ class is very suitable for anyone who is new to yoga. It includes all traditional elements of yoga – asana (yoga poses), pranayama (yoga breath) and relaxation.
When you are new to yoga, it can feel slightly daunting and difficult to know exactly where and how to get started. Or, if you have taken part in some yoga previously, where and how to pick it up again. Our Beginners’ Yoga classes are created specifically for you—to give you all that you need to start a successful yoga practice.
What is the Best Yoga for Beginners?
Please do not worry if you feel you are out of shape or extremely inflexible, our beginners’ yoga instructor will recommend you begin with a gentle practice until you have built up the flexibility and strength for more challenging sequences. Once you are familiar with the basic postures, you may like to move on to our more advanced classes like Hatha or explore a yin yoga class. The best way to know if yoga is for you is to give it a try!
How to Improve after Starting
Commitment, patience, repetition, and consistency are the keys to developing and progressing in the practice of yoga. After you have been to some our beginners’ classes and learnt the basic asanas and pranayama we encourage you to incorporate yoga as part of you daily lives for improved physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. This can be achieved in a number of small ways:
- Come and enjoy your regular yoga class
- Practise yoga safely at home and increase the length of your practice and the number of days per week that you practice
- Write down the effects a consistent yoga practice has on your body, mind, and spirit
- Read and study to learn more about yoga and find sources of inspiration
- Make yoga friends and get involved in a community of yogis
- Adopt a yogic lifestyle
- When you are ready, move on to a more advanced yoga class
What are the benefits of Yoga?
Plenty of research has been undertaken that shows yoga to be an effective and safe way to increase physical activity levels, particularly increasing flexibility, strength and balance.
Some evidence has shown that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with heart disease, high blood pressure and aches and pains (including in the lower back), stress and depression.
Can yoga help prevent falls?
Yes! Balance and muscle-strengthening exercises, such as yoga, and also Tai Chi and Pilates, practised at least twice weekly are recommended to reduce the risk of falls, especially in older people.
Am I too old for yoga?
Yoga is a brilliant activity for people of all ages for both physical and mental wellbeing. People often start yoga in their 70s, with many saying that they wish they had started sooner. Hatha yoga focuses on slower movements so is ideal for all age groups.
Do I need to be flexible to do yoga?
Yoga will enhance your flexibility and help you increase your normal range of movement, which in turn will make performing your yoga postures, as well as your day to day activities, easier.
Can I injure myself doing yoga?
Yoga-related injuries are uncommon. However, yoga is like any other exercise discipline – it is safe if taught by qualified and experienced instructors. With the Rosewell Centre’s team of experienced and qualified yoga teachers, you will learn how to safely practise yoga at a level appropriate to your ability.
Sue Hix, Stefan Cunnington and Caroline are our fully qualified and highly experienced yoga instructors who will guide you in your yoga class. Learn more about them here.
