Join us at The Rosewell Centre for Yin Yoga classes, every Monday between 7pm and 8.30pm.
The Rosewell Centre encourages a holistic approach to yoga that increases awareness and sensitivity to subtle energy and vibrations, as well as improves flexibility of the spine through asanas (yoga postures).
The Rosewell Centre has a warm and comfortable yoga studio, what we like to call our yoga dojo, and take advantage of fine weather to practise outside when possible.
A typical yoga class will begin with warm ups, then moves on to asanas (yoga postures) with pranayama (breathing practices), followed by relaxation and mediation.
This style of yoga is designed to bring you to a slower pace at the end of the day and prepare your body and mind for sleeping deeply. Many participants report that this is the best nights’ sleep in their week.
The postures we work on are mainly floor based, which encourages grounding and promotes pelvic flexibility. The postures are often held for a longer duration than other styles of yoga which gives the breath and the mind time to focus and coordinate on the vibrations in the body.
The slower pace also works on the ligaments and insertions of the muscles which do not stretch with quick movements. It has been shown that these parts of the muscle will respond by heating up when held under tension and then slowly, overtime, to lengthen – a bit like toffee expanding which creates greater range of movement with practise.
Pranayama (breath work) in this yoga class focuses on steady practise which helps to enhance relaxation and sleep. Our current repertoire is yoga complete breathing in shavasana, square breath, alternate nostril breathing and ujayii pranayama.
Sue Hix and Stefan Cunnington are our fully qualified and highly experienced yoga instructors who will guide you in your yoga class. Learn more about them here.
