Yin Yoga Every Monday 7-8.30pm.
This style of yoga is designed to bring you to a slower pace at the end of the day and prepare your body and mind for sleeping deeply. Many participants report that this is the best nights sleep in their week. The postures we work on are mainly floor based, which encourages grounding at the same time as promoting pelvic flexibility. The postures are often held for a longer duration than other styles of yoga which gives the breath and the mind time to focus and coordinate on the sensations in the body. The slower pace also works on the ligaments and insertions of the muscles which do not stretch with quick movements. It has been shown that these parts of the muscle will respond by heating up when held under tension and then slowly over time to lengthen – a bit like toffee expanding which creates greater range of movement with practise. Pranayama or breath work in this class focuses on the steady practises which help enhance relaxation and sleep. Our current repertoire here is yoga complete breathing in shavasana, square breath, alternate nostril breathing and ujayii pranayama.
