Healthy Food Workshops
THE ROSEWELL CENTRE | GRANTHAM | SOUTH LINCOLNSHIRE
In the Rosewell Centre’s Teaching Kitchen
Learn how to make healthy foods
The Rosewell Centre offers teaching in making and preparing healthy food options which participants can effortlessly incorporate into their daily lives.
We run a range of healthy food workshops from our teaching kitchen including how to make lacto-fermented pickled vegetables, herbal elixirs and sourdough bread. Please check our timetable and events page for upcoming healthy food workshops or contact us.
What are Lacto-Fermented Foods?
You may not be familiar with the lacto-fermentation process, but it is essentially the process that produces pickles, kimchi and sauerkraut that you may see on supermarket shelves. However, it is a straightforward and enjoyable process to learn to make these healthy snacks and meal accompaniments from regeneratively grown, local and seasonal produce with minimal food miles. It requires nothing more than a bit of knowledge, salt, vegetables and water.
HOW DOES LACTO-FERMENTATION WORK?
The lacto-fermentation process works because bacteria that could be harmful to humans cannot tolerate much salt, while healthy bacteria can. Lacto-fermentation eliminates the bad bacteria in its first stage and then lets the good bacteria get to work in the second stage.
In our pickling classes you will learn about what types of foods work well in lacto-fermentation, how exactly the process works, its nutrient values and health benefits as well as enjoying the distinctively tangy flavour of the lacto-fermented foods that you have made.
The Rosewell Centre also produces its own range of lacto-fermented pickles which are available to purchase in our online shop, or just pop into the Centre to pick up a jar or two!

Founder and Director
Sue Hix founded The Rosewell Centre in 1996 as a place to celebrate health and well being from a holistic perspective. She has over 30 years experience of teaching healing and health practises and provides Shiatsu, Tai Chi and Yoga, as well as organising Rosewell Retreats.
In these times Sue is focusing on bringing inspiration, healing and connection, while respecting diversity of values and beliefs. Solutions to well being that are low cost and user friendly which can be shared widely to democratise transcendence into new consciousness. Key elements of focus are – regulating respiration to shift physical and psychological states, – teaching how the nervous system regulates the body – presenting learning about hormone drivers and the effect of foods or substances which change our feelings – bringing transformative music into the arena, which soothes the soul and opens us to the capacity for awe.
What our Customers Say
"Absolutely amazing! The photos don't do this place justice. The caravan is a standard 2 birth, nice and clean. You are surrounded by green land. It feels so remote as you have your own land for the stay. Great place to have camp fires and kick back. The village is really nice! So many beautiful walks and animals to see. Great little pubs and village shop. Sue is a beam of sunshine and makes you feel welcome, then leaves you to it! Book this place, its rare!
Really loved my stay Sue, thank you!"
“I have been participating in Sue’s early morning yoga class for many years. It is very enjoyable as the routines vary with new poses and ideas, the most recent addition being aerial yoga. The use of silk hammocks adds a new dimension to practice, challenging different muscles to traditional yoga postures.”
“I had a lovely meditation with Sally’s Ocean Therapy Gong Bath, the sounds were very evocative. I heard the waves on a beach and whales singing! All sounds were very relaxing and I felt 6 inches taller after. It was well worth the drive from Wiltshire!”
"Although I had attended regular yoga classes over the years, I hadn't heard of Yin Yoga before so I thought Id give it a try! Sue provided us with the most comfortable, resting environment in which to practice this type of yoga and I felt that her wonderful soft and gentle tone and approach to the class enhanced the whole experience for me. Sue has such a vast amount of knowledge and understanding which I found incredibly useful as we went through our positions and I enjoyed both challenging myself and the wonderful opportunity to relax and reflect. As if this wasn't enough, after each session, I had an exceptionally restful nights' sleep! I would highly recommend this type of yoga and Sue."
