Hatha Yoga Classes in Grantham

Rosewell Centre offers Yoga on a monday with Sue Hix which is generally a Yin style floor based yoga. You can learn about Sue here  https://rosewellcentre.co.uk/team/

Although this session is generally Yin style yoga it now includes standing balances as well as the restorative asanas.  All sessons include simple warm up exercises breathing practises known as pranayama and meditative focussed work as well as the main postures known as asanas.

Sue helps to guide your practise and keeps your attention moving to parts of the body or the breathing.  Feedback from participants says that this is so different from online classes where you can turn off anytime and so the mind doesnt engage in the deepest relaxation ad concentration.

The studio is adjacent to fields on the edge of the village and is very quiet in the evenings facilitating a deeper relaxation.

This class is for everyone.

What is this practise of Yin Yoga?

Yin yoga can be descibed as slow yoga with focus on working with the connective tissue, fascia and tendons which respond to slow held postures rather than quick repetitions.  Nearly all the work is done at floor level to enhance the state of relaxing at the end of the day. Props are used to help support your posture and balance the sit bones.

What are the Benefits?

The results of slow yoga in the evening show up in your sleep pattern following the class and this is part of the aim to achieve a deep state of relaxation and a following deep sleep.  The work improves flexibility in your spine, pelvic region and neck shoulder area.

Yin yoga can often be more challenging to a busy mind as the process of going inward to focus fully on the breath and the posture is not a regular practise in our society today.

What will I be Doing?

A typical session starts with breath awareness and slow warm up stretches.  Progress is made with seated, supine and prone positions many of which challenge the flexibility of the hips and shoulders.  Some work is done using bolsters to support your posture for holding for a few minutes.  Pranayama breathing practises are included in the session, focussing mainly on relaxing types of breath work.  There follows a deep relaxation of at least 15 minutes and a final meditation in seated posture, focussing on intention and breath practises.

There are special rates for those who commit to this class on a regular basis.

Who will be my teacher?

Sue Hix teaches this class and is a fully qualified and experienced teacher.
